What Are IT Services?

What are IT Services? In the world of Information Technology is just that; Information Technology Services. The term is used in the commercial or business world when describing the service of information technology management as a whole. It refers to the application of business and technical expertise to enable organizations in the creation, management and optimization of or access to information and business processes.

Examples of IT Services

  1. Help Desk Services: Usually aimed at providing technical assistance to the business user community in relation to their computers and or devices. Sometimes this service can be even white-labeled for larger enterprise where  they prefer to outsource this function but keep it transparent to the user community.
  2. Infrastructure Support : This can be anything from project management to support services and management. The term infrastructure encompasses all the organization’s devices and/or equipment the make up an interconnected network. This can be from network wireless devices to clustered databases and mainframes. So, the term IT Services can also include the management, deployment  and even procurement of these such devices.
  3. Cybersecurity Solutions: IT Services can also incorporate security services ranging from policy implementation to vulnerability and threat management services.
  4. Telephony Services: Although not typical originally. However, with the inception VoIP from traditional TDM phone systems, more and more we see calls and conversations using the computer than a regular phone in business. Therefore, it is no wonder that telephony can also be included under IT Services. Most IT Service providers will either partner with a telecommunications company or launch their very own platform to service SIP trunks and Hosted PBX services in the cloud.
  5. Development Support: Yet another part of IT or example of IT Services. From developing APPS to deploying IaaC or Infrastructure As A Code. Meaning devices can be virtually created and launched in the public cloud. Therefore these devices require code or scripting to some extent.
